Country Walkin'

Contributed by Lin54 on Monday, 26th September 2005 @ 12:51:04 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Walkin' along an animal made path
I suddenly stopped and tried not to laugh
At the kitten as he silently plays
With his brown tail in the sun-golden rays

A leaf of the oak from last fall
Crunched under foot and frightened all
Then the kitten jumped and climbed the pine
Big blue eyes looked down and saw mine

The breeze whispered through pine and oak
The brook babbled on as it spoke
The kitten sensing ev'rythings okay
Climbed down and once again resumed his play

I carefully made a circle around him
For the kitten need not be disturbed again
Following on through the path as it went
I felt the warm sunshine - it's rays ne'er bent

I saw the daisies and bachelor buttons, too
Many flowers of many a different hue
The blue of the sky is so pretty in spring
It beckons me on just to roam and to sing

This path keeps leading me on so it seems
Often I wander in the midst of dreams
The birds up above are callin' someone
To come out and play and enjoy the sun

I remember where I am going now
To the meadows to watch the old brown cow
No one has harmed the country out here
The soft warm breeze leaves nothing to fear.

As I lie on the grass of the meadow to think
The world's silly fears just drift away and shrink
This land is mine to roam and love
And God keeps watchin' from above

Very beautiful and visual write, lots of melodies play here, and I can smell your lovely childhood playing in your mind. Oh yes, and reminds me of my youth too, living on the farm, walking down those cow trails, in the spring scooping up pollywogs, placing them in my mothers fruit jars lol, Yes, and the trees, the meadows, the smell of that green pasture, lol, most people raised in the city cannot respect the rich aromas from farm life. All those beautiful wild flowers and berries, tall ferns and creeks. Your old brown cow, we had one for a pet, named susie, the one I used to be afraid of, the big steer was ole henry, found out later on in my late 20's we had him for a many meals lol. Yes, I can hear the sounds of those birds in your write here, how they echo through the trees, see those beautiful puffy clouds laying on our backs, dreaming, what a beautiful life back when. Yes, those fond memories are beautiful to go back to reflect on, will calm you down in seconds. I live in the city now. As the saying goes, you can take the girl out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of the girl. Oh praise the Lord, I love this poem, God loves you dear writer,

Huggs,

Raquel Leah
