PASSING SHIPS

We are like two ships,
Passing in the night,
On turbulent storm tossed seas.
Both desperately reaching out to the other,
To join forces because
There is strength in numbers.
Each time we reach for the rope
Attached to each other’s anchor,
A giant wave slaps us backward,
Almost tossing us overboard,
Apart from each other,
And the safety found in each other’s arms.
We gasp from the salt watery tears of separation,
But we determine to never give up hope.
Nearly drowning we sink beneath powerful waves,
Until our feet hit bottom, and with the strength of love
We are able to push against firm ground and once
Again stand upright, and reach out even further.
At some point just short of exhaustion, our fingers clasp
And new energy surges through us both, and the bond
Will never again be broken, as no storm from this point on
Shall ever again have it’s way with us.
Our lifesaver was love, and you precious darling,
Are the anchor that steadies all the storms in my life
