He lay in bed
Mind and body full of dread
She walked into the room
The room of impending doom
His hand reached out
She took it with no doubt
Silver rings touched
As their hands clutched
Memories soon overcame
Of teenage flirting games
A sweet first date
Their first big debate
A marriage was held and sworn
Their first child was born
Arguments had also ensued
However all of them subdued
The news then came
It set their lives aflame
He was very sick
It could not be healed by logic
With few months to live
The disease held him captive
No one wanted to say goodbye
He didn’t want to disappear into the sky
Alas she kissed his forehead
Out of their eyes tears fled
He knew it was coming
He knew there was no running
Shortly before death
Came his last given breath
Out of his mouth the words flew
“I love you”

I'm sure many of us have known this moment, hopefully as observers, and not 1st person. Very touching and well said. I praise your passion! |
