I Got Fired

There I was working one minute
And gone the next
The shock and pain keep repeating the refrain
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
Surely there must be a mistake
I was a good worker, according to the evaluations they made
Now I've been fired, I fear my reputation is at stake
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
My mind keeps ruminating on this event
And I keep questioning my part in this
The problem for which he takes no responsibility
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
Where does the fault really lie
Is it with my alleged faulty performance
Or rather, over differing ideas which he denies
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
I could have prostituted my values and beliefs
This may have appeased him, I think
But it would have been miserable for me
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
Thinking it through, it was a no win situation
So given the option to choose my response
I will deal with finding another vocation
Am I not worthy, am I to blame
But I will not carry his cross
My worth is not at stake here
Rather, only the pain of the loss
Yes I am worthy, and it's not my fault

I like this poem very much. If I am reading it right,
you are expressing why you yourself should not feel guilty
for your friends loss of the job in question. So this poem
may help you feel better realizing you aren't to blame, but
it might not be so well received by your friend. After all,
your friend's own feeling of self worth is now at stake.
Perhaps another write in honor of your friends good
qualities would help booster and encourage this person.
Sincerely,
Rob |

Change the refrain to "He is not worthy, he is stupid" then that should make your friend happy. |

I know what it is like to not have a job. I think you did a good job at this write.
Go encourage your friend that it is not the end of the world. |

This is very supportive!
I do think it is worthy to share, if anything, it shows your support. |

I really like this poem as reader, and also your inspiration for doing so...However, thinking if I was your newly unemployed friend, and reading this, I'm inclined to think I'd start to get offended around the second or third time I read 'Am I not worthy, am I to blame'. You do make it right with the very positive last line, but (being a sometimes ultra sensitive person) I may get offended reading this, knowing it was about me...Your friend on the other hand, may see this for what it is...A dear friend making an honest attempt to make me feel better about losing my job...I do really like the style you wrote this in, and the tone it took on, when you added the bold lines. Good write: )

This has got to be a winner in it's own right; for there are so many who agonise from such a rejection as this. Creatively relevant and thought-provokingly captivating~!
Interesting prayer of President George Washington, though, “May the Father of All Mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths; and, make us in all our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy”
