IS HE DEAD?

Contributed by Robert_Edgar_Burns on Thursday, 22nd September 2005 @ 02:25:44 PM in AEST
Topic: anguished

On the sidewalk of my doctors office,
My eyes went blind, I fell.
I do remember thinking,
Would I wake in Heaven or in Hell?

The top number was only forty.
Twenty-seven the bottom one said.
The lowest blood pressure Doc had ever seen.
I heard a nurse ask “Is he dead?”

For four days teetering on the line,
Often floating toward bright light,
I was captive in a coma,
But overhearing “He won’t last the night!”

Finally upon release I’m told,
“Hurry, get your affairs in order.”
Just let me say “I’m not dead yet.”
Though I’m walking quite close to the border.

I was advised to check in with Hospice,
And search for a good nursing home.
I’m told that it is critical,
That I not be left alone!

Doc said another episode,
Is one I would not survive.
But it’s happened to me three more times.
They are amazed I still am alive.

Each time the scene repeats itself,
Invariably I hear it said,
While I am floating toward the light,
A voice asking “Is he dead?”

Nice write, it is a good thing to be able to hear those sweet words, when we are dead, we can keep waiting forever to be able to hear anything at all.

Such an honest write Robert. It really did leave me in tears.Even now I am at a loss for words..because really there is none. Not any that can allay the terrible feelings of helplessness or fear, sadness and some anger. My you are brave and a fighter to boot!
Thank you for the comments on my "cheap motels, guitar and wine"..
and I am sure your wife is at a loss with her heart, though we do this in silence for we wish you to see the smiles and positive attitude, but let it be known, underneath we are empty for what we cannot prevent or cure that hurts our loved one, then takes him/her away

I wish you many more days, memorable moments with your family and friends but most of all,I wish you peace
Hugs and Love to you and yours
Loving Whispers
