Remember me

war

If I should not survive this battle,
Look for my cross under a willow tree,
Near a stream with a stone bridge,
Where the sun shines and days last forever.
Know that I would have fought hard to the end,
That in no way would I have let you down,
Yet he who may take my life away,
All must forgive and treat as a friend.
If amongst the choking stench of battle,
I should lay down in silence and die,
Do not bring flowers to mourn me,
Let them live long and please the eye.
There can never be a reason for war,
No list as long as of those who are slain,
The brave you shall read their names,
No winners, no losers, just dreadful pain.
As I and the other about to be dead rise,
Join battle whilst politicians sip tea,
The cries resound across an innocent field,
When you find my cross, remember me.

Oh Jon...this is an awesome write!!!! I am so proud of you for getting that pen out again.....it's almost as good as my fav of yours, "Did You Wave Your Son Goodbye"...
I will always remember you, my friend... and I won't need to find that cross.....which I would have trouble doing anyway, cuz I won't find the willow tree...
Hugs and Snogs...
