The Cross

The cross
So tall and strong
He hung there
My Lord, my God
"How much do you love me," I asked as I cried.
He didn't say a word; just spread His arms and died.
"Why didn't He answer," I wondered aloud.
He left me alone in the midst of the crowd.
I turned my back on Him and for three days
I took it out on the world with my disbelieving ways.
Then, the third morning, I walked to the tomb.
I wanted to see if the rumors were true.
"I'm lost and confused, Lord," I prayed
As I approached the tomb where He had been laid.
I looked inside. There was no body to be found.
No evidence of theifs. I looked around.
I began to cry and question His love for me.
A Voice said, "My child, did you not see?
My answer, not of words, but of actions and grace.
I loved you so much, for your sins I have paid.
"How much do you love me?" You asked me that day
But to answer you, I had to go away
For a time I went and I fought for you
I have won and risen as I said I would do.
The voice ceased and I turned to look at Him
The One who loved me though I sinned
I realized then that His love for me was greater than the earth
And nothing could compete with what He thought I was worth
The cross
So tall and strong
Could not keep my Lord there
For long
