Thoughts of something that happend yrs ago

Topic: StoryPoetry

On a late, cool summer eve
Rain was pouring, lightening in the skies, and thunder, rumbling
A feeling of calmness was strucken over the 2 story house and family
All sitting around, kids playing, and mom and dad reading the eveing paper
Then something became, very strange.....................
A knock on the door, dad goes to open, and "alas"......No one.
So he claimed it on the rain and the drops that were falling heavyily
All went back to normal.....Reading the paper and listening to kids, laughter
10 mins, had past..........Another, knock on the door, even louder, than before
Mom , steps to the front door, opening, and ...........No one , again
Now, this was getting, stranger by the minute
Knocks, and the door handle rattling, made the family imagine, many things
Was, someone trying to come in out of the rain?! Or, was it really no one there?!
Dad, deceides, to open the big, Oak door, and leave the glass screen door, open;
Nothing..........
Several hrs had past, and the rain trying to subside
Bedtime was in the furture, for all
As, we all began to slumber off, to the dreams of the nite
The phone, began ringing.......
Wehear dad........Voice was becoming louder, and semi distressed
Mom, getting a feeling of bad feelings, and great fears
Dad, sits the phone down...........with a gasp and sigh; signals for mom to step over to him for conversation
A hush amoung the children; you could of heard a pin drop
Twenty minutes later...........nothing
No mom, no dad............The children , now extremly worried
What could of caused the great silence , they occured that nite?!
The clock ticking, on the wall....loudly
The dog in the hall, barking like he never had before
Shhhhhh...........they were coming..........Dad with grim saddness, and mom with tears
Not a word was uttered from the kids..Just exhaustion, of being kept in suspense
Both starred, at all 5 kids....................Dad went to speak, and words, could not flow
Mom tried, and tears had begun falling as water does, when turned on
What had happened? Were we going to know
Suspense, growing rapily
Finally, the eldest, spoke..............May I ask why the dead silence, and pouring of tears?!
It had happen..................Dads best friend, had tried to kill himself, and succeded..........
Was told this all happened whilst, in the mist of the pouring rain
We could not beleive, what we had just been told!
Now.................You tell me; Was the knocking at the door.............Someone trying to let him know..........
Are, was it him?

This is a honest, truthful story. I was about 10 yrs old and YES, it was my dad.! I still to this day, do not know what to think on a whole. Thoughts have lingered for yrs..........so I figured I would share.

ON A DARK CLOUDY NIGHT
SOFT SUMMERS BREAZE FILLED THE AIR
FOOTSTEPS FILLED OUR EARS
UP AND DOWN THEY KEPT THE PACE
SOMTHINGS NOT RIGHT AND OUT OF PLACE
WE LOOKED AND LOOKED AGAIN
BUT NOTHING
JUST FOOTSTEPS
TWILIGHT TURNED TO NIGHT
AND STILL FOOTSTEPS
NO ONE COULD SLEEP FOR THEY ONLY GOT LOUDER
THEN SUDENLY SILENCE
NOTHING COULD WE HEAR
ALL WAS THEN GOOD AS WE FELL ASLEEP
NOT KNOWING SOON WE WOULD WEEP
3 AM AND FAST ASLEEP THE PHONE RINGS AND DADS A *****IN
THEN HE PICKS UP AND I HEAR HIM SAY
THIS IS A SICK JOKE RIGHT YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING
AT THAT POINT I JUMP OUT OF BED
LOOK AT MY DADS FACE NOW COVERED IN DREAD
MY DAD LOOKS AT ME AS TEARS ROLL DOWN HIS CHEEKS
(NOW TEARS ROLL DOWN MINE AS I THINK OF THIS )
HE TELLS ME GO BACK TO BED SCOTT
BUT LISTEN I DID NOT
I STAYED AND I LISTENED
TO FIND OUT WHY ON HIS CHEEKS TEARS GLISTENED
HE HUNG UP THE PHONE AND HELD ME TIGHT
THEN TOLD ME HIS BROTHER BILL HAD HUNG HIMSELF TONIGHT

AND BREW THAT IS A VERY TRUE STORY AS WELL

DAMN THAT BROUGHT BACK SOME MEMORIES

WE SHARE SO MANY THOUGHTS IT IS ALMOST SCARY

HUGS AND KISSES

SCOTT
