I don't know you any more

Contributed by Archie on Wednesday, 14th September 2005 @ 05:13:26 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

I remember when we were kids
and we played super heroes
but now we are so different
it is like night and day
All you seem to do right now
revolves around your money
You push and destroy everyone
who gets with in your way

There was a time that I could tell you almost anything
Talking to you now is such a chore
There was a time your friendship meant the world to me
but I don't know who you are any more

From the time our mom was sick and you told me
You had better things to do than come help her
There was so much love that we could have fostered
You abandoned us and now our mother's gone

One day you''ll come to understand
why I did the things that I did
One day you''ll fall in love with some one
you won''t abandon
One day you will understand
what true family is
that you give of your self
and you wash them of their sin

There was a time that there was no one I would talk to except you
But now we are not brothers because
I don''t know you any more.

I wish that we could still be brothers
but there's no explaining to you
until you've realised what you've done
I don't know you any more

Note; This poem represents my feelings about my brothers and sisters who because of money do things to hurt each other more and more. It is dedicated to one of them in particular. I can not trust any of them though because of events past and recent that I will not explain here. This is one of the reasons i have depression- My goal was to disown all but one of them this year but I can not bring myself to do it, I am glad that I live far away from them so that I don't have to go through all the things they put my aunt through. It is a long story. I wish . . . and dad was here

Wow... this hurt to write, I'm sure. For your brother to change that much, so much that you don't even know him. It must be very difficult. Be strong, though. Don't let them bring you down.
Take care, pray.
David

As the old cliche goes you can't pick your family, you are stuck with them. So, it's best to live by example, and hope that you will influence them in some positive way. As for depression, I have no advice to give, because I am in the midst of it myself. Just surround yourself with people who care, and write, write, write.

All the best,
Anita

Really sad.Family rifts are hard to heal, try to be tolerent, even though it's not at all easy. You only have each other now with your mum gone.
Hopefully with time they will realise what a big mistake they have made.good luck, Ros

I commend you for having the fortitude to write and share about such a personal and painful issue. I think it's hard to disown those of our own blood; but we can certainly condem their behavior. The fact that you can experience your feelings, and express them in a poem like this is a tribute to your strength. You can be a strong person and still feel depressed.

I wish you well and God Bless. Thanks for sharing your life with us, i'm sure it will help others who are struggling.

Will

Takes a lot of courage to write about such deep feelings, especailly when you feel betrayed by family. These are the people who are suppose to be with you through everything and now you feel you do not even recognize them. You do a great job of portraying this. I know it is tough, and you are going through a depression. You are actually at an advantage because you have the power of awareness and a great gift to express emotions. That is an important thing that most people do not realize is so essential. Forgivness is also important too! :)

A heartfelt, transparant write. Families bring out the best and worst in us. No matter how badly we are treated or they act, we keep hoping they'll come good, partly as a validation that our anger, or grief was justified.

I can't really offer any technical criticism on this one, as it is too close to my own family mess. Therefore, emotionally this one really connected.

Spike
