The Purifier

Contributed by Wendy on Wednesday, 7th September 2005 @ 02:45:51 PM in AEST
Topic: Event

The New land once was innocent
Great rivers freely flowed
but then bound and left to the rule of man
the cities became filled with toxic Sin
The time to cleanse is set
The Creator unleashes nature’s fury
The Purifier has her task

Infantile bands of silver-gray
Swirling around an eerie calm
The ocean nourishes
the infant disturbance grows
Into a cyclopean whirl of turbulence
Bearing down upon the center
Of The Rock of Peter in the New World

The Cities of Sin are annihilated
By the one whose job is to Cleanse
She uses her tides and Herculean winds
And avails herself of our hubris
The mounds of earth designed to
Keep her out were like paints in
Her palette of destruction.

Once the winds had passed
mankind joins hand in hand
To complete the leveling
of what once was grand yet irrevocably corrupt
Knowing together they have the power
To save not just the cities, but each other
From the toxic basin and baseness.

Neither race, nor faith, nor creed
Separates those who are displaced
Strings are tugged
in the Universal heart of mankind
Each wants to share his gifts
The lost are found, the homeless housed
And hungry bellies filled

Those who lost everything
find love in places once unknown
They realize as long as mankind
Has the capacity and desire
To reach out to those in need
Love is indeed our greatest wealth.
Material goods mean naught.

People throughout the land of the Eagle
Open their homes, coffers and cache
Bounty dispensed to all who need
Lines of division erased
The Cathartic One did not discriminate
Amongst those in her path
Paupers and magnates are set equal

As the rage of the Cleanser dies
The lands are pure once more
The time of renewal dawns
The New Rock of Peter will be rebuilt
But will it be rejoined as the Cities of
Sin are forever changed?
The lost will found, the divided unified
A monumental opportunity is bestowed.

Is mankind wise enough to learn
from this pseudonymous gift from God?
Or are we destined to repeat past mistakes
And discords again prevail?
Pray forbearance persevere, debasement exorcised
Salvation desired as God’s law reigns
And the Cleansing Tide and loss of life ne’er return.

Impressive work! This piece has a broad and powerful scope, with a style that is almost medieval. Your view is very well-illustrated, and coupled with the surprising meaning behind the name, is compelling.

Alas for the grief, the death, the separation, but we can indeed hope that good can be brought out of it as well. It is good to think on the larger view of things.

Well done. This was fulfilling reading.

Blessings.

Andrew
