The Life I Always Wanted

(Lying in bed, I wipe away my tears, pick up the phone and dial in a number. Putting the phone to my ear, I wait a couple seconds.) ""Alyssa (Pause) hi, do you have time to talk? Great, I have a lot to say. Growing up as a little girl, from as far back as I can remember, from about the age of two to the age of five my life was what I considered perfect. I only wish life was still like that (Sighs). Those were the days;(Tilts head to the side) the days when my family never fought, we always had time to spend with each other, and I always had extra attention (Looks up) from the ones I love. (Puts head down) But those days are over and totally flipped upside down (Makes fist). I feel like my life is a wreck now. When I turned five years old I was diagnosed with depression and as the years go by my depression gets (Nods up and down while saying worse and worse) worse and worse. No longer does my family have much time to spend with each other. When we are together, we are frequently yelling at each other. I also feel like I rarely get attention from my loved ones any more (Wipes a tear away). But when I do get attention I don't want it. What can I do Alyssa? I just don't understand. (Pause)I don't understand life. (Big pause) You know what that's a great idea, a vacation, a getaway, that's a good way to think about it. To get away from every thing, just to relax and learn to love and appreciate what I do have in life. I have a family that loves me even though it might not seem that way. I also have a lot of good supportive friends. But deep down I feel like, my dreams are still dead and my hopes are still lost. Thanks anyways Alyssa, I'll talk to you tomorrow. (Pause) Yeah I'm ok. Thanks for listening bye."" (Puts phone back and walks away)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
