DRIVING DRUNK

Contributed by randyjohnson on Monday, 5th September 2005 @ 09:09:08 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Because of my stupidity a mother and daughter are no longer alive.
One night I decided to drink and drive.
I hit their car and knocked it off the road.
Because of me a little girl will not have the chance to grow.

They might have survived if they would've had their seat belts on.
Now I'm in prison and I hate myself because they're gone.
I lie awake on these sleepness nights and pray that I die.
When I think of it, I put my head in my hands and cry.

I can keep saying I'm sorry for a million years.
But that won't take away their loved ones pain and tears.
Because of me they're both dead.
If you're considering driving drunk, take a taxi instead.

This is a very relavant poem, especially in a South African context. Each year, thousands of people die on our countries roads, especially over the festive season. I lost several family members in car accidents & just two weeks ago 3 children died in a bus accidenton the slopes of Table Mountain. Although this was not alcohol related, scenes like these are becoming almost normal. I just hope people come to their senses real soon.

Wow a very real poem, I could feel the pain and the tears. My dad learned his lesson in drunk driving once, he rammed the back of a car, I an my brother were with him, we were all okay, but he learned his lessons when he went to jail for one day. SLipSiX. I have made up some techniques that people could use for drunk driving, I say they put Don't drink and drive, then show how badly the car got screwed up because that really affects a person, I believe it would teach some lessons anyway. A very good poem. SLipSiX.

Nice write...hope more people hear this and follow your advice....
So many people are effected once someone dies this way...I noticed a new add today, on tv, if your drunk you don't need car keys....how true...if only everyone obeyed that one...
