And so the time to leave the beach is nigh.
The hacienda waits arrival scene.
At rail the carriage horses they will tie
where stable peon finds the bays to clean.
"Yes, Excellency, but it was your horsemanship the people admired. I can
still see their faces and hear their voices." Don Hernandez was well
pleased in remembering. " People of Peralta are very generous in their
praise," he confessed. " They admire you, Excellency."
"Yes, they are good people. I seldom have trouble - an occasional fight
maybe, a stolen pig or two. Nothing more." Huerra spoke to his foreman.
"Take Don Hernandez' carriage outside, Segundo. See to the horses."
Diego Silva moved away from his patron. He went to the carriage and
lifted his pancho from the seat. He put a broad brimmed hat on his head.
Walking to the carriage, he held horses steady while alcalde climbed into the
surrey. "Come captain," Don Hernandez spoke. " Step up into the carriage. These
beautiful bay horses are my pride and joy."
Captain Thompson put his foot on the brace and stepped up slowly. Segundo
pulled the horses' heads around leading them outside of the hide house.
Don Hernandez spoke again. " I don't recall Captain Luego ever bringing you
to my hacienda, Captain Thompson."
"No sir. I'm looking forward to meeting your wife and family."
