The Wishing Tree

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Tuesday, 30th August 2005 @ 03:30:02 PM in AEST
Topic: mystical

Warm evening air wrapped my body like a soft blanket
Light breeze whispering all about me, leading me forward
Following, bewitched by a dancer I could not see
Closer to my destination, set high on the hillside

Through the long grass in the meadow I had wandered
Summoned by a power, destiny unfolding like soft rose petals
Awakened yet enchanted, footsteps on a preset path
Journeys end looming into view, standing proud before me

In branches that reached out low to the ground
Paper hung like blossom, clustered on each strong limb
Hopes and dreams of those who had already passed this way
Marked down for eternity, a legacy of their being

From the cleft that lay in the lowest of the branches
I took pen and paper and wrote down the words
For a moment I paused as woodland spirits danced the treetops
Then carefully tied it tightly, placed it with the rest

Light was dimming, sun dipped headfirst into mountain peaks
I turned about, began to walk, knowing there was no return
One wish, no more was anyone ever to be allowed
At the foot of the mighty wooden tower they called the Wishing Tree

Such a sweet write Steve, well done!

We're all full of wishes and hoping they all come true but sometimes, some wishes are best to be left alone and just kept as a wish. Those make us dream :-)

Huggssss,

Nats.

I took pen and paper and wrote down the words

Wrote down which words?

I'm sorry, but I don't get it.

I like this ! ! I imagine the tree, swaying in the wind with everyone's dreams just hanging by a thread, hoping and hoping. I especially like your ending verses, which completed well your poem : "One wish, no more was anyone ever to be allowed, At the foot of the mighty wooden tower called the wishing tree" ....I applaud you once again,

PumpkinPie
