The Hardest Part
~~~~~
The hardest part of being a parent
Is leaning how to let go
When your heart gets in the way
Of doing something that you know
When your children become independent
And they push to have their way
It’s like a knife through the heart
When they stop listening to what you say
The best of intentions get misconstrued
As acts of power and control
Tempers become enraged
Wounding the heart and soul
As we struggle to hold then closer
The more they go astray
As the grip through your hands
Starts to slip away
If wisdom could be handed down
Like a used, holy shirt
Maybe this transition would be easier
Perhaps there wouldn’t be this hurt
Though struggles make us stronger
Life’s lessons comes in time
Values will not lie dormant
They will resurface on a dime
Though it’s difficult to see them struggle
Painful to watch them bleed
To let them learn from their mistakes
Is something that they need
Pray for God to watch over them
Until they come back to the fold
Where your arms will be ready
To embrace them and to hold
Fabulous! I can find something in your poem that relates to each and every one of my kids. And yes, I have to let go more. *sigh*
Thanks,
Jennifer |
