Confidential Tears

Contributed by Jase on Tuesday, 30th August 2005 @ 07:09:56 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Amidst the desks and PC’s close to the certificate A’s and B’s,
By the stationery room door where there’s files on the floor,
And the lighting is dim close to Beryl and Tim,
Is his favourite space in the whole of the place.

Mood increasingly stale after gathering his mail,
Plodding worn carpet tile he savours her smile,
The day no longer dreaded he returns empty headed,
To the custody of chat between Dennis and Pat.

But today she is down again dressed in that frown,
The constant inane spawning dark clouds then rain,
Tear stained floor hidden beyond cubicle door,
Lost in ocean of grey far from hopelessness bay.

If only he knew why this place makes her cry,
But he is blind to the ache of the grind,
His only apprehension the size of his pension,
And his constant deflection from this secret affection.

And if only she knew how deep his feelings run true,
Clearly unawares of how much he cares,
Her sought after chance of fantastic romance,
Goes wildly astray amid bureaucratic decay.

Destined to be apart both lonely of heart,
Passion restrained propriety maintained,
Indifference rules subsuming administrative fools,
Unfilled destiny of a love never to be.

What a sad ending! I loved the poem though. It has a wonderful cadence and rhythm to it. Great job!
