Numbers

Contributed by xxbreathlessx on Monday, 29th August 2005 @ 09:49:49 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

We watch the clocks all too carefully
Never fully understanding the meaning of that one minute,
That one second,
That can change our lives forever.
Failing to acknowledge the fact that in those
Two seconds of breath we take,
Another may not come.
Or in opposition may come too quickly
And leave
Before we even got a chance to recognize
Its existence.

Passing before our eyes
That one chance,
That one risk
We were too coward to take,
Being documented by a simple moment in time,
A blink of an eye
A flutter of a wing.

Each smile we make
Or each tear we cry
Is forever imprinted as evidence
That we,
In actuality,
Are humans.
The story behind those numbers don’t lie,
They just help us live.

This rang true in so many different ways. You touched on so much here, in so little words….very nicely done.

This is so true!!!
We are all known by numbers; as in, our identificationcards and everything...
No.s are, in a way dominating vehicles in our lives...
great write!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
