A man with few fears.
A man willing to give for what he can receive.
Hard at work to earn his pay.
Trying to make a decent living for his family and he.
A heavy leather belt strapped firmly around his waist.
The light on his hat to lead the way.
Covered in blackened dust;
in a hole cut deep into the earth.
A most dangerous job,
but also eerily peaceful.
A dream in the depths of darkness,
lit by a single beam.
A Coal Miner fit to be a king;
one with many ambitions and dreams.
A Coal Miner that is loved by many,
and many by he.
Dirty,Sweaty and Tired;
I don't care,
Please bring him home safe to me!

Great write. You are lucky to have a husband willing to go to such extremes for the well being of his family. He too is lucky to have a wife that holds him in such high regard.

Hi smallfry and I really did enjoy reading this. You see I too was once an underground miner in the region that was made from coal, namely South Wales in the UK. Bravo to all such men.
On a slightly seperate point, when I was actually a miner, women, yes women miners from America visited my colliery and took part in an underground pit visit. This memory, along with many others, has always stayed with me..

Awww, you really love him (this much is obvious)....
May he always return home to you and hopefully they have showers at the mine? :)
Very enjoyable and he sounds like a good man.

OUTSTANDING ! My father and his family were coal miners in Ohio years ago, lost some to a cave in, I can certainly understand your poem. |
