Dearly Departed

Contributed by Webalady555 on Wednesday, 15th January 2003 @ 10:20:00 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

We were best friends. You were the only one I could run to.
Then, you were taken from me from out of the blue.
Death laid its hand upon you and left it's mark.
All I could do is hope that a light would shine through the dark.

I stood beside you every minute of your pain.
Where was the life I hoped you would regain?
Your skin became pale and your eyes light.
I gripped your hand all through the night.

My bones became heavy and my legs weak.
All of my other problems suddenly became small and meak.
I wished I could be the one on that bed.
I knew there would be much less pain if I were dead.

You started slipping further and further away.
What awful debt was death making you pay?
I started to cry as I struggled to hear your breath.
Much to my fears there was nothing left.
The pain was greater than any i'll ever know.
But, all I could do is watch you go.
