Refusal

The road was wide,
But not near long enough.
With every second she came closer,
To the point of no return.
If she ever came to the end,
The past would fall behind her.
She didn’t want this to end,
For it made her feel so alive.
She wanted to keep feeling this passion,
Not the dread she knew would come.
Not far now, no,
She could see the end.
Inside she was frantic,
This feeling was so wonderful.
She could not let it go,
Would not let it go.
She refused to exit,
Sat inside defiantly.
Nothing could make her leave,
Even though she knew she must.
So she reluctantly left,
Allowing her composure to crumple.
And as she turned to wave goodbye,
She knew deep inside,
She would be there again,
And she turned away,
With a heavy heart,
And allowed herself a grin.
For the feeling would come back,
And she wasn’t alone anymore.
