Grey

Contributed by shade on Wednesday, 24th August 2005 @ 02:11:03 AM in AEST
Topic: abstract

Everything's gray
In this cement scenery
Bewildered thoughts of escape
As I approach eagerly
With a caffeine clutch
So I can sleep easily
Swim through blankness and dream about dieties

Analize mass and time
Paralyze candlelight
Waltz through my memories and swing bats at satellites
I walk shadow-like
Single step silhouette
And play the background with pillow-depth intellect

City-scape cinimatics cartwheel past my axis
Trudge through the months, through the mud, through the madness
Fading ghosts haunt tombstone sidewalks
I find blind spots for my stops to time shop

The sky blankets the mind in a shade of vague
Passionless, directionless with a painted face
Dreary streetlight peircing
Corner goblins force their posture fiercely
Only hear their own voices when they talk in theory
Stomp and sneer
Metal dragons with lit glass eyes and rubber legs, fly on asphault sky and breathe smoke
Swallow people whole as stone trees grow

Noone listens to the nameless sage
Stench of heartlessness as sharp as razor blades
No slave labour, though many are labour slaves
Machine type bondage
In a maze of dead stars they scream like comets
And only the despondent can see like prophets

They run from the dark sounds of the heart's pounds
As earth stares mars down
We model monoliths to honor economic grip
Built high to scrape sky and scar clouds
Then we wonder why pain rains outloud

I am impressed! I was not expecting such depth, such force and clarity. Not expecting to read anything so good tonight. But this most certainly is that. I have a fondness for writing that takes views of a different angle, talks truth rather than follows the inexorable current, and does so with such an edge of skill. The proliferation of rhymes and near-rhymes throughout are a joy.

Well done! I appreciated this much.

Andrew

very good write. I like how you exposed the weakness and tendancies of man throughout the poem using the city as a vast metaphor. Very unique, keep it up!
