Shame

The feeling is frozen,
Thoughts torn on the inside,
I hide,
Away from the emotions.
I feel chosen,
Deep inside I know,
I show,
Only little pieces of me.
Shame,
For all the broken thoughts,
That I did not share,
Shame,
For all the hurt that did not,
Escape from closed lips.
My soul cries out for freedom,
Longs for closure,
Suppose more,
Perhaps I could have freed myself.
My body is my prison.
I hide inside my cell,
My Hell,
I created my reformatory.
Shame,
I did not stand,
No, I turned away.
Shame,
I could not speak my mind.
I was afraid to defy.
My poor heart,
I encased you in ice,
For a price,
No fire can destroy you.
Oh, my mind,
Wish I could turn,
I yearn,
On a whim that you would return.

Powerful. I especially like the verse,
My body is my prison
So true, and one we can never escape. |
