Doubts and thoughts

Contributed by WAE on Friday, 19th August 2005 @ 06:11:35 PM in AEST
Topic: political

I’ve been to war and seen the death
But now I’m rocking in a chair.
Of course, it is a kind of bless
But still I don’t believe it’s fair.

Perhaps, I shouldn’t get involved:
This war’s not mine and why to worry;
My duty’s paid and I am old.
And what I can do except for saying a pathetic sorry?

I would be still and let it go
Were I a hypocrite or coward
But part of me, may be my soul,
Commands me “Think! Make a step forward!”

Should I be deaf and blind and mute
Ignoring war and death of others?
Should I pretend to be immune
To cries of orphans and the grief of mothers?

Or should I stand and face the truth
Escaping from the web of liars?
Should I demand to stop bloodshed
And bring the real culprits to trial?

The question is how strong I am
To fight the enemy who’s stronger.
Without help I am a lamb
Whose life’s not valid any longer.

My voice is weak while alone
But thunder will it be with others.
Get up! Let’s bring them home!
Your daughters, sons, your friends and fathers!

Alexei Ogorodov, 2005

If I understand your poem correctly, you are speaking against the current conflicts which blight The Middle East among other places. If this is the message, all I can say is a great big BRAVO !

Thanks Colin

A pithy polem. As I see it as a whole,- "I am my brother's keeper after all"
No way out.
Wars there have been are being waged and will be waged, because HE said: " MY peace I give you, not as the world can give it".

I believe that it is however unforgiveable to be "Neutral", but to stand up courageously in what you believe in, even should it entail conflict.
Excellent poem.
Succinctly written.
Hugs
Elizabeth

That is some writing. I see your doubts (should you be against war?) and your thoughts (you should be against war). Very good indeed.
