Way back in the 80’s,
When I was just a boy,
There was a TV rock show that my parents just called “noise”.
I watched it each night after school
But never did I think,
How a simple TV show could throw my whole world out of sync.
As I sat with eyes transfixed,
What a sight I saw.
A girl came on a video I’d never seen before.
As I sat and watched her, TV dinner on my knee,
I thought she’s nice, but knew she was beyond the likes of me!
As days turned into years,
And I slowly grew up,
The girl on telly got more famous, for her singing and her looks.
She kept releasing records.
I kept going to the shops.
Then came home disappointed when I found them out of stock.
But then she disappeared.
Was this the end of the line?
It was her record company decided to call time.
And so she left the fame behind, and went and took a chance.
She moved off with her husband to a little place in France.
Now out of the lime-light,
The world quickly forgot,
The girl from off the telly, who had given such a lot.
But I had all her records,
And never could forget,
This pop star I’d grown up with who I never ever met.
Then one day I heard the news,
A come back tour was planned.
I felt oh so very happy with that ticket in my hand.
Now my destiny was set.
My fate so very sealed.
I was about to discover if this pin-up star was real.
Once the show was over,
After everyone went home.
I stood there in a rainy street, once again alone.
Then Bang! A door flew open,
And as I turned to see,
There in person was my superstar, smiling back at me!
And so to end this story,
There’s one thing I must do.
That is to say hold fast your dreams, for sometimes dreams come true!

I like this poem, it's sweet. But, I'm afraid I can't identify with it. I'm not very optimistic. |
