I'm Not The Only One

Contributed by wordpoet on Monday, 13th January 2003 @ 11:40:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Told to a heart from a mind gone sour,
Push feelings away, cringe and cower,
You have no hope, no one loves you,
All your silly fantasies won’t come true.

Told to a heart from its first true love,
Please set me free like a small white dove,
I love someone else, you don’t interest me,
I’m leaving you alone so just let me be.

Told to a heart from the one who got away,
You’re a nice person who’ll find someone someday,
They’ll want to be with you, it’s bound to be,
But I’m not interested, you’ll never be with me.

How does a heart endure these times,
Cut and abused by emotional crimes,
How can it continue to hold out any hope,
When it finds itself at the end of its rope?

It started long ago with a mother’s gentle voice,
When softly was said, “I love you” quite by choice,
She held you to her breast and kissed you on the head,
And scared away the monsters that hid under your bed.

Next there was the friend, who was always there for you,
And when you were in trouble, they always saw it through,
Because of all they did, you learned to trust another soul,
There was no other motive, friendship was their goal.

From these simple lessons I know one thing is true,
Not everyone will hurt you, as some have tried to do.
Now let me tell you something that once to me was told,
That love is often hard to find but more valuable than gold.

So don’t listen to your inner doubts or give up in despair,
Just keep waiting for your moment, in time it will be there.
You should hold out for tomorrow, it’s but a day away,
There’s love for you I know it and this is what they’ll say.

“I love you more than anything you’re always in my heart,
So if you’ll take a chance with me, we’ll make a brand new start,
I want to spend my life with you, you’re everything to me,
And each night I’ll hold you in my arms, if you’ll just let it be.”

If you’re wondering how I know, that these things will come to pass,
The answer is quite simple, I won’t even make you ask,
I can see it in the person you are, the things you say and do,
And I’m sure I’m not the only one who will fall in love with you.
