Wasted days
staring away
looking out the window
of this 1972 Fleetwood mobile home
watching life go astray
drink another drink
you may think
to ease your pain
they say you should worry
when you enjoy
the drink alone
sitting in the dark
getting stoned
hide the bottle
find new places
all the time
ashamed aren't you
don't want people to know
go to the one thing
that's hurting you the most
he's an alcoholic
are you going there too?
get off work at 7am
there you are in your
white uniform
with your pint
little Kesslers and coke
your becoming such a joke
he beat your ass last week
bruises all over your neck and face
take another drink
kill the pain, why don't you
big party
everyone drinking
he slammed that can at your head
you walked home, alone, so drunk
woke up next morning
in your ditch
voice in the head
said, quit drinking b**ch
and that's what I did
Done ate an ulcer in your gut
puking up blood
learned the hard way
didn't ya!

The nightmare of alcohol. So many young people following the bad habits of their parents usually. I had my first pint with eighteen and did not liike it i still only on very rare occasions drink a glass of wine in company. Sometime a beer with my meal. I am glad to see that you have kicked the habit and can now write about it. good luck to you from bernard 2 |

The reality of pain, what we mortals do ourselves is such a shame. Why do we try to kill ourselves? Is it because that seems easier than to change? Whatever the reason, you can rationalize, and make excuses just so long..........the reality of pain sooner or later will catch up with you, and then what?
I have many alcholics in my family, My own son was one. I used talk until I was blue in the face, it finally took prison to make him understand.
What a marvelously written poem. I felt your dispair, and looking back the regret that still hangs on. Good for you.....keep up the good work!
Warm love

I hope, Laura, that this may rattle one or two to read the deep truth that is here in front of them. I have never misused alcohol or used drugs but one of sons did and it was horrible. He nearly destroyed himself and us. Thank you for sharing this part of you. It might save a life or two.
Hugs,
Rita |

Excellent pull-no-punches tale of 'the bottle' Laura...Very well done and I commend you for overcoming this hurtle. I've dealt with these demons in the past myself, and your emotive words are very relatable...Great job: )

we all have our addictions
you conquered yours
well done
some of us still fight the demons that whisper to us day after day after day. |
