Daddy, Why'd You Do It?

My bloodied knuckles scar,
memory emblazoned upon my skin.
Broken wood panelling stares
suffocating me with compelling sin.
Locate, Vacate, Eradicate;
forsake feelings for the purpose of life.
Suffer, buffer, rougher;
Tougher hide to fight the sharpened knife.
Daddy did you mean it?
When you said those nasty things?
Daddy did you mean it?
When you stole my butterfly wings?
Can't run away, can't hide
from the sound of your voices in my mind.
There's no one to turn to now,
want to forget my heart is forever blind.
Complain, constrain, profane;
rain falls as God's tears we caused drown.
Threat, regret, forget;
Russian roulette starts the countdown.
Daddy did you mean it?
When you said those nasty things?
Daddy why'd you do it?
When you broke my butterfly wings?
You drive the knife through my hope,
telling me life's a stage.
Hell would be heaven with you,
I'd rather hang backstage.
Booze, accuse, abuse,
bruise a child's soul.
Motion, siren, leaden;
beaten too low to console.
Daddy why'd you do it?
Why'd you say those nasty things?
Daddy why'd you do it?
Why'd you break my butterfly wings?
Do the right thing for you,
the wrong thing for me.
Carry on with a smile,
until they can see.
Extreme, dream, scream,
sunbeam's burned my naked skin.
Leech, preach, speech,
teach me all you've never learned.
Daddy why'd you do it?
Why'd you say those nasty things?
Daddy why'd you do it?
Why'd you break my butterfly wings?
Daddy why'd you do it?
Daddy why'd you do it?
Daddy why'd you do it?
Now it's my turn...

Powerful! Hang in there, seek out help somewhere if you need it, even if it is someone on YPDC. You aren't alone and many of us have felt these same things about ourselves and our parents at one time or another. I enjoyed your piece, it was so bold, and strong and must have been so therapeutic for you. Stay strong.

Hey kara definitely glad I stumbled across
this one I know you sent it to me but it is
always good to see what you write on here so
I can leave a comment. I hope you have
recovered from this awful night and I hope
writing this poem helped to heal you. So yeah
loved this poem and I felt tears coming to my
eyes as I read this. I do have one complaint
however I thought this write would've been a
lot stronger if you hadn't repeated the
"chorus" stanza and instead had just put it at
the end and left out those last four lines. All
around thuogh a great poem Kara.

Dear Kara,
It is monumental that you could clear your mind
long enough to even write after that most horrific
experience.
I have been there as well..
My parent's were unforgiving in their plight
to make each other miserable..and so we suffered.
Continue to harness their misery for your own gain-
(and write, write, write..)
it's theraputic-
Much love and many hugs..
