Our Last Goodbye

Contributed by Willofree on Tuesday, 9th August 2005 @ 08:56:12 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

The couple's embrace was passionate
Both clinging to each other afraid to let go
Their bodies melded tightly together
Feeling unexpressed love and desire

Both were trembling as they disengaged
They've been together less then apart
While gazing into each others eyes
Realizing any promise to return could be a lie

Clinching hands, they arrived at the dock
His war ship about to disembark
One final embrace, as terror tugged at her heart
A final goodbye, a possibility from the start

"I love you," they exclaimed as he boarded the ship
The vessel diisappeared over the horizon
She felt a horrible sense of despair
Knowing her lover may never return from there

They exchanged letters regularly
In hopes they would soon be reunited
Time seemed to drag by agonizingly slow
She often felt desperately sad and alone

Then the letters abruptly stopped
At her door, the spirit of darkness appeared
She froze, than began to sob
His departure really was their last goodbye, as feared

Terry ~ and I notice I'm about the only one who calls you that anymore ( I love being unique ) ~ there is such a feel of despair and sadness here. What really hits home is the element and the chance of truth. I think you have a real winner in this one. It reminds us that all our troops, overseas or at home are at peril. I don't know that we can be reminded of that enough.

Nazzy ~

What can I say to this other than God bless our heroes. Sadly many will not come home. Some will come home changed people, some with less than what they left with. War is terror and never accomplishes anything but to create more hatred and eventually another war. Thank you for expressing this in words. So many of us think this but can't find the strength to post it. They are all heroes in my heart and so are the families of our men and women fighting for our freedom. Rita
