battered soul

Contributed by Unbreakable on Friday, 5th August 2005 @ 07:27:14 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

They tell me I’m beautiful, but I just don’t see
Whatever they do when they look at me
I look in the mirror, but I can’t see past the lies
The truth behind the compliments, the girl you despise
I have to be perfect, I have to be you
I need to see this world from a different view
My perspective is jaded, my vision is torn
My eyes filled with venom, my words full of scorn
My flaws become who I am, they are me at my best
And I can’t live my life, I’ve become obsessed
Everyday thinner, because I can’t eat
To the ways of the world, I’ve admitted defeat
But I’ll never be good enough to make you look back
Nothing that’s changed can complete what I lack
Thrusting another mirror to the ground
I wait to hear that sickeningly beautiful sound
The shattering of my confidence, broken by tears
Destroyed so callously throughout the years
And I walk away once again, imperfect, unwhole
To nurse what is left of my battered soul

This is truly very sad. You cannot make someone love you. Especially because of the way you look. Real love goes far beyond that. They may date you because you are pretty or sweet, but people marry for love, not false facades.

"There is a contradiction here that I think you did not realize when you wrote this poem. That contradiction is your name "Unbreakable" which also means unbatterable and unable to be hurt and down trodden by the world. I say that to encourage you. I wrote this to show you that there is a mirror that can not be broken and a bueaty that is not meant to be seen through an earthly glass. That's what came to mind when I read your poem.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
