Glory and Shame

Contributed by Man_On_High on Friday, 5th August 2005 @ 12:30:05 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Alone I walked the ocean strand,
a pearly shell within my hand
and stopped to write upon the sand:
my Name and year... the Day-

So onward from the spot I passed..
one wayward look behind I cast
as a wave came rolling, high and fast
and washed my lines away.

And so methought 'twould shortly be
that every line on earth from me
in a wave of Dark Oblivion's Sea,
would sweep across the place;

where I had trod the sandy shore
of time, and been to be, no more
of me: the day and name I bore,
to leave but not a trace..

but yet with Him who counts the sands
and holds the water in his hands,
I know a timeless record stands
inscribed against my name.

In all my mortal part is wrought
the thinking of my soul in thought..
and from these fleeting moment's, caught
the Glory and the Shame.

M.O.H.

Billy, I must say truly, this is a brilliant write on our mortality and immortality combined. Yes, we will leave but yet we will forever live on. I have to give applause to this one.

Smiles,

It makes you picture a serene beach before the person dissolves away to heaven. I may not be totally in love with this poem because it's a little bit hard to see the shame and glory of dying. Maybe you could help me with that. But overall to me, a nine point nine nine nine. It's wonderful.

This is worthy of the neoclassicists of yore, and better than some. The rhythm and rhyme is perfect (not one line sounded forced), and the theme is captivating. I like it!

Billy, everytime I feel you can not eclipse the emotion and depth
your writes evoke, you go and write something like this.
Incredible. Moving and so very deep. You capture so
many emotions and hold your readers spellbound. I am,
again, humbled beyond the capacity of explanation.

Much affection~

~Breezy
