Staring into the abyss

Contributed by Archie on Thursday, 4th August 2005 @ 09:18:56 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I stand upon the tranquil sea a black sheet of glass that stretches into forever.

There is nothing here but my own reflection and the echo of my own voice.

The sounds of the waves are hidden by my weeping.

The glow of the sun is smote by the shroud over my heart.

All who come here die
my rose is death
and my song is mourning

The petals from the tulip fall into the sea
and are frozen in the black of my memory.

They fall to never rise again
They fall to never rise again

Notes- I had to take some time off from writing to deal with my depression I am on the road to recovery but I realise this is just the beginning of my road and not the end. I am greatful to those who tried to help me in May and hope that one day that I will not feel grief the way this poem descibes but can always write what is encouraging to others. I hope that any one who is feeling this way will seek help from close friends who care about them.

I took time off to deal with depression as well -- longer than you (5 months) but it does help immensely, I'm glad to see you back here, I'm glad to be back here and let me just say that I really can relate to this poem... a lot.

This hit me hard, I've gone and am going though similar experiences. Great work.

Yes, I think you have described the depressed heart aptly. It is like staring into a never-ending abyss I know.

This poem was beautifully written and I loved the word imagery used, just wonderful.

I wish all the happiness for you in the world and thank you for sharing your feelings.

Depression is a cruel state. Yet the most cruel thing we can do is not treat it. If you continue to do as needed it will get better. It is a road that can be long, but I am so thrilled you finally sought help.

Blessings,

depression is like any other illness, and sometimes that's what we need.. a step back .. we feel crazy..but it's just that our batteries are low..and we need a re-charge.
thanks for sharing this..

Just so happy that you feel well enough to share your thoughts again. That in itself is a sign of recovery... You're on the right track, my friend..
Hugs
