Disposably Yours

Contributed by Freak-of-the-Week on Wednesday, 3rd August 2005 @ 05:38:23 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Twenty thousand dead-end masks,
Each with fivefold tears;
A few long nights to draw up plans,
Before the next appears.

I'll model this one after you --
(I've always loved your smile);
Plus you have so many friends,
And such a great hair style.

You seem to laugh much more than I,
You cry a little less --
Your type of life just seems so clean,
Compared to mine: a mess.

So I'll steal away your pretty face,
Your little life, I'll borrow --
Just let me have some fun today,
I'll give it back tomorrow.

I've stolen faces many times,
So I might build my own,
'Cause it's easier to mimic you,
Than be myself alone.

Honesty, quite honestly,
Was never quite my style --
So please, just let me steal your face,
Your life, for just awhile?

I know that I can't be like you,
Forever and a day;
But let me see life though your eyes,
So lovely on display...

I want to know what I've done wrong,
Which road I'm wrongly taking --
I want to know who I've become,
Behind the one I'm faking.

So let me steal your pretty face,
So lovely and sanguine;
Such a lovely mirror-image,
Of the life I've always seen...

This is great. I don't even think you realize
how much so. I've done the same exact
thing throughout the years. Always
wishing that I could have the "easy" life of
someone else. It does help you grow as a
person, because everyone you meet does
play a role in who you eventually become,
but the grass is always greener on the other
side.

I loved the rhyming, you pieced this together
very well. Excellent write and take care.
