Homeless Romantic

Contributed by heartquake on Wednesday, 3rd August 2005 @ 04:13:38 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

An old Italian man sits aside a New York City street
Commotion all around him but he can only hear his heartbeat
He counts each thump to see how many he has left
He ignores all the new people that just yesterday he met

He's forgotten their names but not their faces
On a worn out notebook, an old lady's hair he traces
Long and smooth, just like he remembered her
Her light hair wasn't grey, he knew it as silver

It seems like he hasn't seen her in so very long
His angel, his wife, but just yesterday she passed on
His new found friends offer him their sympathy
Condolences mean nothing when you've lost something so heavenly

Five decades ago he sworn his life to his wife and romance
Thats how much time it seemed his walk home had passed
He walks into their house, the first time he's been there alone
He looks at their pictures and says to himself "Without her, I have no home"

Oh...this is a good one. The imagery was superb...and the way you presented the topic was unusual and different (in a good way). I liked this poem very much...thank you...Eric

Awww...this is so sad...

But at the same time, I am glad they had 50 years. That is a long time for a marriage.

This is s lovely write, so full of heartbreak.

That last line really drove the point across.

Great write,
*hugs* Phil xxx
