End of an Age.

Contributed by fionndruinne on Monday, 1st August 2005 @ 07:03:13 PM in AEST
Topic: abstract

This day
is the end of an age.

I can hear the pen moving
across the page
finishing the passages
written so boldly before.

This day
is the end of an age.

And it passed too quickly
for us to carve a kingdom,
though each morning
we hailed the new sun,
then turned
our faces to the West,
where the sea of hearts
once was.

And through the pipers
of a sad dream
we would still go there
and the stones still stood
on the old hills
like teeth,
and the mist still slid
over the mountain.

We never said
our farewell words to the sun,
for they were written
before our time
and were colder than death.

But this day
is the time of the Words.

And this day
is the end of an age.

Yes.. the poem reads to me..

Being a poem.. it is very concrete to me.. it tends to draw me in..toward those specific experiences..changes..of past events

Here today, gone tomorrow feeling.. aha surprises..

It tends to bring the past right into the present..

Past.. end of an age..

Present.. new age now..

The poem moves me.. It sure makes me think.. reconsider my day..

Muse... you are reflecting nicely here in this write..

I know because it gets me to meditate as I read your write.. sort of daydream thoughts of thinking... absorbing what I can.... as it takes me beyond..

I don't know.. just set my mind into action.. in a trance of deep thoughts...

I remember talking to my father one time sitting on an old stump down by the barn.. next to the running creek.. I said Daddy.. do you think anyone has created this yet..

He said.. Raquey.. if you can think of it, its already been created..

I thought about that through the years.. and even though we see things taking on different forms..
it does not mean its new..

We are not so unique as to believing that nothing like this has been created or gone on before.. its just opening up a book that has already been written..

finishing the passages
written so boldly before.

each new generation..that comes along, takes up where that last generation left off..

I can hear the pen moving
across the page

yes. and its getting louder..

Very moving write.. so good.. all kinds of stuff pounds into my mind..

I felt sadness and a sense of loss that can't be recovered. I dunno why. Your poem was very moving and made me think, really think-- about what leaves us and do we mourn or accept?

It is nice to see you posting again and I really think this is a poem that highly stands out tonight..

Andrew, this is a splendid piece of work. I visualizee the old world and the progression through the ages to the new age today where words travel around the world and back in milliseconds. Words everywhere, but no poets or masters to be seen. Forgive me if I am wrong. This is a marvelous piece of work to my mind.

Being that August has never been even a mildly good month for me, this poem spoke volumes in my mind. It seems like it's the end of something wonderful, and - yes - I agree with it.

But it is exceptionally well written, with the sort of flow you can't shake easily; in which case I agree with Kie.

Keep writing,
-Eve.

There are hot tears stinging the backs of my lids. You have captured the sadness of finality at a point that stands of the edge of tomorrow.
My muse is gone, but yours is strong and poised for what is next.

I remember not so long ago you told me you had wisdom beyond your years. I think I am starting to believe you. Your words remind me of the great warriors of the day who went into battle never fearing defeat so long as they did not dishonor themselves.

Words said, statements made, voices mouthing remarks at a time and place, all forgotten with the passage of time. But pictures made and emotions felt will stick with my memory over a long period of time.
Nature in all it's glory is what impresses me.

I have no idea whether my response makes any sense or not, I just felt inspired to do it.

A powerful write, well done

Will

Andrew!!!! Oh, gosh... this makes me want to just start shouting "yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!!!!" and not stop for quite a long time! Oh! - it is right and proper and fully understood by this reader why so many have come here, found this and left their very varied comments here. You have offered something extraordinary here and we have each seen it with our own eyes.

I, Andrew... see it much like Jarred did. Oh! this felt brave and important and very in-the-moment-true. I have to echo Jarred comments, Andrew... I think you have a moment waiting for you up ahead... I think you'll look back on this and be nearly knocked over by it. I think, Andrew --- this --- will be something you will never forget.

This feels enormously transitional... and without even knowing precisely why - I'm feeling so very happy for you. And truly, I want to congratulate you, Andrew... you've done something quite amazing here.

Andrew, this was just mind blowing. You’ve captured more than words and feelings in this write. You have captured people’s minds and hearts with every word/syllable. This is truly special.

I can hear the pen moving

That stanza just stood out for me, it’s exactly what im feeling right now. Thanks for sharing this maestro. You truly do move us.

Your poetry flows as if it were from the Olden Days,

Like the works of Bards and Minstrels,

Each line produces such vivid pictures and encompases the imagination,

Each word arrays

Them in bold colors that are striking but gentle as a flowers petals,

The words of your pen are not idle, for the heart they brighten.

I liked the period in the title, it kind of made you feel the end. Whatever.
Take care.

Lately I'm a sucker for reading poems with this level of ambiguity and imagery. It just leaves the door open for so much interpretation, and at the same time leaves unquestionable pictures for the readers to interpret. All in all, this was a write that I found myself enjoying, from the images of stones, mountain ranges (the ranges I think I might have though of myself..lol), or the setting sun (or just the sun in general). Excellent stuff.

I didn't want to go looking for a poem of yours that I hadn't commented on, that would take to long. Neither did I want to wait until you posted again, that could take ages. So here is my six hundred sixty-sixth comment, just for you.
Didn't notice anything new with the second reading.

Wow wonderful poem Andrew... I am not
really sure what to say about the poem since
it is much to lofty and deep for me to
understand, but I loved the imagery and just
how it was written.

A most very moving and beautiful cameo..
and painted with words that have a hue
that is brilliant-

..my intuition tells me of
an inner struggle by way of this..
or perhaps some acute restlessness-

either way..it's fantastic.. very poetic.

Very very well written..

Sincerely,

B

One of the most alive poems I have read. I can not understand why it has such a low rating. This is simply astouding, and from your work which I have read this may be your best. Considering your talent that makes this just damn astounding!

You know Andrew, I am not sure I understand it either but maybe that is something we are not necessarily supposed to do. I however know this and that is I absolutely enjoyed it. I want to say some of the usual, like great imagery but it's more than that. My highly technical term is "wow". What a wonderful panoramic view and this was like going back in history. I cannot explain that feeling but it was as if I took a trip through time and there was a presence of something....a sensation right as you "penned" I can hear the pen moving across the page . Breezy explains it best for me... " I feel like I'm in the land of the enchanted.". Yeah, that does it. You have a brilliance that astonishes me.

Take care,

Tim
