Betrayal

A hand gloved in white satin
Rests gently upon my forearm
I remember that hand,
though half the size then,
Clinging desperately to
A single finger of my hand
As I helped my daughter
Take her first steps.
I taught her to walk.
How she can be
Ready now to walk
Down that aisle
And into the
Waiting arms
Of someone who can
Take her away?
It must be some kind of
Betrayal.
But then my little girl
(all grown up)
Smiles at me
And I know I'm wrong.
