Writing on coffee house napkins is an age old tradition.
Re-lived, reincarnated and duplicated by writers
From every stage of development
At every state of enlightenment
From every dais of opinion
About every subject imagined.
If its been imagined, its been written.
When its been written, its been written on a coffee house napkin.
Scribblings can be perused
They can be dribbled upon accordingly.
Crumbled up and tossed - then rescued, improved upon
Or they can suddenly meet their age of acceptance.
They can be smeared upon, lamented over
Laughed at uproariously or sobbed over uncontrollably.
They can lend the comfort of an unwritten upon corner
to wipe away well spent tears.
Lovingly, carefully folded away
Placed in a purse, back pocket, wallet...
To lend a moment of levity, strength, courage when taken out again
To be re-visited, or, when finally worn too thin
Nearly unreadable, but loyally memorized,
Just touched.

The title as well as the poem I thought was truly excellent. !!
"They can be smeared upon, lamented over
Laughed at uproariously or sobbed over uncontrollably.
They can lend the comfort of an unwritten upon corner
to wipe away well spent tears."
Oh I had to quote because the above was my favorite.
This really hit home for me and it brought an old friend to mind who actually wrote a bunch of notes---he was going to say to me on napkins, sticky notes, anything he could find. I still wonder, especially this morning, what it was he had to say that I never let him say. Your poem left me pondering and emotional and I just think it is truly a one of a kind.

if you check my past comments, you'll see that I have, as of yet, left a poem as is. If any one is deserving of that, this is it. I really did enjoy this piece--and while its subject is simple, it speaks(at least in my opinion) to show the capacity words have to be both powerful and valueless. Because I believe a poem is never truly finished, I did find the last stanza a bit choppy due to the punctuation. See if you can clean up a comma or two. I'm a fan.

Oh, I agree with Kie. You drew me in with the title and really held my attention with the piece. There is much that I appreciated here... and much that I pondered. Those words that wind up on coffee house napkins (and other various scraps of paper) are often those 'HAD to be written' words, those things that burst out regardless of one's preparedness or expectation of their arrival. And yes! such things should be honored as you've described here.
To be re-visited, or, when finally worn too thin
Nearly unreadable, but loyally memorized,
Just touched.
The entire piece is terrific and this conclusion... perfectly fabulous!
Well done!

When the idea hits you, you have to write on anything that is available.
Great write.

this title really catches the reader's attention, and it captivates the reader the whole time... I really enjoyed this piece, and to me it displays frustration yet portrays hope, too |

great idea and write .. I keep a pad by the tub ... most of my poetry comes there for some reason; relaxation I'm thinking.
But I often wonder if every idea has already been thought of ..
I think so ..

Wow! I enjoyed every second of every minute reading this write. You said so much and all of it true. I still have to go around collecting all the little doodles and scraps of verses or momentary thoughts lying about my house at times.
To be re-visited, or, when finally worn too thin
Nearly unreadable, but loyally memorized,
Just touched.
Your ending was remarkable and tied everything up so neatly. Bravo, 5/5

True, quite true. Because of the fact that I almost always carry the small notebook in my pocket, I seldom have these issues.
Yeah, the torn up one.
Well written, and a warm welcome to YPDC.
Take care.

Well done! I love the theme, and the way it is opened up to the reader. It's instantly accessible by us strange band of writers, and thus a terrific first posting! Nicely done, you.
