With a flicker the flame dies out
As with the thunder, the lightning is sure to strike
One must remember what this life used to be like
In an instant
A literal second
Moistened, fattened, padded for our own protection
To soften the blow
As the cannon balls are fired in my direction
With a whisper the voice fades
If you come nearer
And softer
The worries float away
If you are truly precious, then kiss me now
Before I died
Yesterday

This comes across so damn sad and hopeless...You said a lot with so few words. It makes me think of a love lost, or hope forsaken...Depressing, but well written.

this poem can be interpreted in so many different ways and i think that alone can make it a masterpiece. but not only did you make the reader think and relate you kept it mysterious, sad. you made simple words come alive and that reflects alot in the poem. awesome job. |
