A Beautiful Cat

Flash, the sunlight beckons you awake
Crash, as you tumble and shake
A bowl of milk into an open lake
What is this grey bundle of love?
A beautiful cat has awoken in the fuzz
Paws stretching towards light’s touch
Her rough tongue greets the swirling breeze
She is so gentle to all that she meets
She traverses fences and leaps steel gates
To lye on a red brick roof as the day disintegrates
Turns, she’s wrapped in laden dreams
Learns, all isn’t all it seems…
If life is a sea, then she is just a stream
Once upon a time a handsome kitten died
Saving his sister from the roadside
You can’t buy time… but I will always try
To make her a ripple, in the wave of life
A sacrifice, to blunt time’s brutal knife
For, I want her to be the beam in sunlight
Even though, I know, I can’t stay to watch her survive
Blink, as the sun tiptoes into her eyes
Wink, whilst dreaming of mice filled skies
The beauty that is within us all never truly dies
It just lies, like me, by time’s roadside…

I probably would've enjoyed this more.. lest the italic font..
It is though, a most genuine write to your feline..
(just a little cumbersome to read)
Great write just the same.

"If life is a sea, then she is just a stream"
"I want her to be the beam in sunlight"
"The beauty that is within us all never truly dies..It just lies, like me, by time’s roadside.."
..those lines are enough to state that your poetry is beautiful and sublime ..
This an excellent work...venkat

AUTHORS NOTE:
This poem is written through the perspective of the cats’ dead brother... read it a few times and it becomes clearer…
The poem is roughly based on a real life relationship between a couple of cats via listening to a friend's account of their antics/adventures. The cats were called Tilley and Beeba and were close siblings. :)
It’s also based on my current neighbours’ cat whom I almost run over in July 2005 and scared the life out of me to see a diving black cat somersaulting out of the way of my screeching brakes at 8am… I said sorry to it and we’ve made up now lol

I don't think I have ever read a poem from such a perspective. I didn't mind the italics (psst, how did you do that ?) And I thought the rhyme pattern was very creative. I like it.

This was nice. Did you consider yourself at one time to be that dead cat on the roadside? |
