Very dark the autumn sky
and dark the clouds that hurried by..
Very rough the autumn breeze
shouting lonely at the trees..
Shivering, frightened, pale and cold
beneath the withered leaves is told
that peered a violet all in dread..
"Where oh where is spring?" ..she said
Sighed the trees.. "Poor little thing,
she cries aloud in vain for spring.."
Then the grasses whispered low..
"We must never let her know!"
"What's this whispering?" .. roared the breeze
"Hush.. a violet!" ..sobbed the trees
She thinks it's spring and will, we fear,
die if she should ever hear!"
Before the wind stole soft away,
tenderly he murmured.. "Stay.."
and to a robin on his wing
said.. "Stay with her one day and sing.."
The robin sang so sweet and clear,
that the sun came out to hear
and in answering the song
beamed on violet all day long.
At last the dry and withered leaves
were taken by November's breeze..
Then the violet raised her head..
"I fear 'twas never spring." ..she said
Happy dreams the violet had
all that night. It's very sad
that when the dawn came dark with snow
the violet never woke to know.

Perhaps the smiley face that shines from the home page..describing this, is not illusive to the sadness of it all.. lol (oops)
Maybe the 'sad poetry' category would best fit this.

This was sooooo sad Billy, almost made me cry. Wonderfully written with excellent flow as always. Very touching how they all came together to make her one day as special as they could before her departure.

Oh how darling..
Makes me think of my lonely maple tree and willow tree poem.. which one day, I suppose I can post..
we had our willow tree cut down, and maple whined all summer long lol..
My kids were young then, and we had a lot of summer fun under those two trees..
Oh.. lol. lovely.. lovely poem..
which reminds me also of many summer vacations, laying my eyes on these beautiful flowers by the roadside in rocks, just thriving.. beauty.. when we went to yellowstone park, fishing up in Bend at smith lake here in Oregon.. going all over the midwest... oh.. such memories your little violet.. and autum poem... wind and trees make... snow... oh.. go to sleep my little one.. lol...
I love this write... really I do... its so tender...
Thank you so very much...
Raquel Leah (Poetress)
and what is more.. I love violets.. how tender this poem is.. its so beautiful.

There are so few poems these days that render me speechless, so while I just had to comment, I don't know what to say. This is beautiful and perfect and prety, and so very wise and I am so thouroughly impressed that I will print and save it forever, with your permission of course. Amazingly precious write! Thanks so much for sharing!

You know this poem is very much like some of my favorite writter's works. I am in love with the feeling of your poem and such a sweet way of painting pictures with words. Anyway to cut it short I thought it was simply beautiful.

You pieced this together very well. I loved the
personification. However, wouldn't it be more
depressing for the violet to have awoken
from her "happy" dreams and suffer through
the snow? Either way, this was a very good
write, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wish I could
live in a state of such oblivion. |

Billy~
How sad this is my dear friend. You miss your beautiful Mother so much. My heart hurts for you Billy~
If we only had control of these things, but sadly we don't.
Happy dreams the violet had
all that night. It's very sad
that when the dawn came dark with snow
the violet never woke to know.
These lines were deeply heartfelt and tears fill my eyes.
Your beautiful Mother is up in heaven now in a lush green field with eternal violets and forget me nots watching over her precious sons.
My heart and prayers are with you always Billy~
love always and forever,
~*suzie Q*~ |
