Heat Lightning

Contributed by thepizzaguy on Monday, 25th July 2005 @ 11:12:06 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

In the heat of an August evening,
as the sun sets, and the stars begin to glow.
A muggy cloud of uncertainty fills the air,
and flashes of light begin to illuminate
the naive sky.
It is no storm, for there is no rain,
not even thunder to accompany the light.
And yet, like a young and innocent child,
we wonder if something is on the horizon.
As if this heat lightning is a prelude
to a bigger and better symphony
of rain and thunder.
We will always wonder
what secrets the heat lightning holds.

I love the shows put on by heat lightning. Where I live we get the fronts pushing down from the north and the fronts pushing up from the Gulf and it meets right over us. Many nights we have sat and watched it. Sometimes it is almost as beautiful as the lights of the Aurora Borealis.

I once lived in Florida, the lightening capitol of the world- and saw A LOT of heat lightening-
an awesome site it is:

"we wonder if something is on the horizon.
As if this heat lightning is a prelude
to a bigger and better symphony
of rain and thunder"

picturesque and lively few lines.. these

Oh! I like this! Heat lightning is extraordinary, isn't it? You've done well here in describing the atmosphere, the awe and the (I'd never put this word to it before but yes! it absolutely works...) secrets that lie in the dark just beyond the flashes. It - and this - is... an energizing experience.

Terrific write!

heat lightening
interesting.
Seems like it would be nice to see.
I liked the part about "...a bigger and better symphony of rain and thunder."
Great write!
