My Little Unborn

Contributed by Vermillion on Monday, 25th July 2005 @ 04:14:57 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

*authors notes*

this is written from a dream i had some odd time ago.about digging up a coffin in my back yard and it was a coffin of my child that had never been born and when i opened the coffin it was completely empty and was filled with little keep sakes my mother had filled the coffin with, such as pictures of me and my family and assorted notes describing how much i loved this child and i was so touched by it i started crying and woke up in tears shaking with sadness....needless to say it left an impression in my memory

My Little Unborn

as i dig,this shallow grave
unborn child,i could not save
mother womb,that did not tear
oh how i wish,i wish i was there
was it a boy,was it a girl?
oh why oh why,did it leave this world

i hit the wood, brush away the dirt
to reveal the tomb, within the earth
in the dark i sing this song
about a coffin only 1 foot long
i open up the box,of which it lie
to see my reflection,deep inside

empty,as my void filled soul
empty and dark and bitter and cold
pictures tell of grandmothers love
love for the nameless daughter or son
precious memories,and little keep sakes
even destiny is bounded by fate

my heart,once cold as steel
my heart,now shattered to feel
crucifixes,bibles,blood, and thorns
see you in heaven,my little unborn
as this night comes close to a near
in the morning i shall awaken in tears...

Poe-esque in style, rhyme and structure.
"i open up the box,of which it lie
to see my reflection,deep inside"
How, rather, uncanny!
Literal and metaphoric...abstract, really.
Loved it.
