Ignorance is Bliss

Contributed by bobotheclown on Saturday, 11th January 2003 @ 07:20:00 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Ignorance is Bliss
I felt the Judas kiss
Ignorance is Bliss
Your lucky the vein I did miss

You don't know this, but I am a cutter
If you'd look you might see it in my eyes and shudder
To you I might look whole and sound,
But to often I find myself strangled and bound

These invisible tears that roll down my face
They tell of my sad, sad case
To often I find I am invisible, a passing ghost
I wish I said this to boast, but that's what hurts the most

I find some wholeness in these rhymes,
But in the deepest depression I find myself so many times
I stink with this bondage it drips from me like soiled rags
And it hurts, to wear this mask, to be trapped in these rocky crags

I find that the tears and pain are still locked in place
And it hurts that you won't give me any grace
You just watch as I implode and shatter
You said I was your friend, but in these times I see I don't matter

I hope I can find my way from out of here,
But constantly I find myself riddled with pessimism and fear
Do you know what its like to have flesh dead and rotting?
You don't yet you just sit there like a robot nodding

The point to life I see less and less
As I find myself deeper in this mess
I feel so dirty and tainted
Losing all this blood makes me weary, so I fainted

You know, ignorance is bliss
I felt your Judas kiss
Ignorance is bliss
I see your smile and your backstabbing hiss

And those loud, aching tears you hear at night?
There mine...

Joel my beautiful friend, as you well know people fear the unknown and so many times will dismiss this action as someone who "wants attention" which is really sad...i read this to you because your life is important to me if not anyone else...

The blood from my vein which is two and fro
Drips with delight in the crystal white snow
My pain is released my fears is better
Pain is the life of each self mutilator

It's sad when people say self mutilation is stupid and wrong....and it would be so hypocritical for me to say for anyone to stop cutting...my heart is right there with you Joel..keep shining through your poetry my friend...

Big Huge Huggs Joel,
this line for me said more than my whole vocabulary ever could..
"You just watch as I implode and shatter"
I'm always here... may you find beauty today instead of the pain.. and sunshine instead of rain.. love and another hugg always Nessa

Wow!!! I have read this many times and am still haunted by your words ... You may think I am naive, but until I joined this site I did not know that people did this as a kind of need to express pain. I have read many poems here about self-cutting, but this one truly made me sit up and listen.

This is an incredible poem ... very well written ... but scary.

I am not a cutter, however I have recently been diagnosed with Bi-Polar after a suicide attempt. I have a good friend who is a cutter who tried to explain it to me. I think you did a FANTASTIC job with this poem, it is very deep and if people take the time to read it and understand it they might actually understand cutters. I hope you get help and find a way to stop hurting yourself. I wish I could do something to help you. Good luck and God Bless
