FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION

FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION

A nicely dressed middle aged man
approached the podium,
High school students watched,
to them he was awesome.
The richest man in the world today,
William (Bill) H. Gates III started talking,
there was no delay.

"You have been politically taught,
a feel-good generation,
With no concept of reality, your set up
for failure has begun.
I have 11 Rules to introduce to
you to help you grow up.
If followed, you will become
a mature grownup.

Rule 1:
Life is not fair.....get used to it!

Rule 2:
The world won't care about
your self-esteem, so commit.
They (the world) will expect you to accomplish
something BEFORE.....
You feel good about yourself--walk through
Reality's door.

Rule 3:
Right out of high school,
You are not going to make
$60,000/year, that's uncool!
You won't be vice-president
with a car phone,
Until you've earned both
don't be a fool.

Rule 4:
If you think your teacher is tough,
Wait until you met your boss
he's going to seem gruff.

Rule 5:
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your grandparents had another word for
burger flipping.....it was called opportunity.

Rule 6:
If you mess up, it's not the fault of your parents
Don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them
create brilliance.

Rule 7:
Before you were born, your parents weren't boring
like you think they are now.
They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes, and listening
to your wonderful know-how.
So before you try to save the rain forest
from the parasites of their generation,
Try delousing the closet in your own room
yourself proven.

Rule 8:
Your school may have done away with winners
and losers,
but
Life HAS NOT! In some schools they
abolished failing grades, a shortcut.....
They give you as MANY TIMES....
as you need to get the right answer.
This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance
to anything in the real life.
You get one chance, and that is
offered along with much strife.

Rule 9:
Life is not divided into semesters quarterly
You don't get summers off 'tis not breezy,
Very few employers are interested in
helping you find yourself.
You can do that on your own time
by your own self.

Rule 10:
Television is NOT the real life.
In real life, real people actually
have to leave the coffee shop and go back
to the job with real strife.

Rule 11:
Be nice to nerds.
Chances are you'll end up
working for one.
I was considered a Nerd,
but I wasn't shaken.
I knew I was just a
good workman.
You can be too, if
you'll just take action!"

On line,
the poem
is mine.

"Hated because he is rich, I did extensive
research on the man, and find he is a
very moral, generous soul. He doesn't
just give away "Millions" but
"Billions" each year!
I, personally am amazed by his tenacity and
drive. I thought the above speech was
excellent, and that's why I posted it."

William H. Gates III and his
wife, Melinda, lead our list of superbenefactors.
Along with others, they're using wealth
and personal capital to attack some of the
world's most intractable social problems

*Money Smiles*

I'm so glad you posted this ConSue...He is indeed a wonderful, compassionate, and very giving individual! You're right, a lot of people don't realize (or want to see) that. I have a lot of respect for him. What an excellent speech too!! Words of wisdom all the way...Thanks for sharing: )

We need to get back to basics.. basics work..

Most take shortcuts, hit bottom, mistake it for the top.

Our one idea is an important one.. don't listen to others who try to shoot it down.. for they are there with claws and teeth to rip it from you..

Thank you Bill for Microsoft. Who knew ..

By the way.. LovingCritters, here is a page you might enjoy...

Unique ideas are waiting inside of each of us, to come out, stand up and be noticed..
