a daughters hug. by larry lile

Contributed by potlicker on Thursday, 21st July 2005 @ 06:16:30 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

it is lonely here in this dark room, as i sit here all alone
my heart is sad and lonely, in this place that i call home
looking back from the mountain top, at my life spread there below
wondering why i chose those paths, when i came to those crossroads

i see the daughter i begged God for. that night those years ago
the girl i always wanted, the daughter that i love so
the one who filled my life with joy, and filled my heart with pride
the one who has no way of knowing the tears that i have cried

i wonder what sin I committed, that has turned her heart toward me so cold
was it when, i stepped in, to stop the hurt that she did bestowed
upon the only woman in this whole world, who can claim I love her more
the mother of this girl of mine, the wife that i adore

i can see that night so long ago, under those hospital lights
her mother in pain laying there, me fearing for their lives.
the babys heart was racing as they took her from my sight
me there down on my knees, praying for both there their lives.

this night she's with her mother, and they act like there best friends
while i'm alone and wondering when my daughter will let me back in
into the circle of her life, with more than just a shrug
will the time ever come again when i dont have to ask
my daughter for a hug?

fathers really are all in the dark about what went wrong that made their daughters push away from them aren't they? Try to get involved. When you want to spend time with her ask her what she wants to do. Don't follow most men in asking her to join you in what you want to do. Show an interest in her and she may return with the interest in you. Most importantly listen to her.
sincerely
megan
p.s. this is what i would want of my dad too so it should be the first step with your daughter.
