Standing

Contributed by skinney86 on Thursday, 21st July 2005 @ 02:23:10 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

We all just stand here waiting for it..
Waiting for the final blow to arrive
Gazing up at the sky, we just stand
Transfixed at the red stream of light.

Hoping this doesn't mean the end forever
The end of the world which we destroyed,
The end of hate and suffering which we made
The end of fear which we started with bombs

Finally we feel the fear that they had
Now the deaths that plagued them, plague us
For we never thought it would be us to suffer
We were always the right ones, never the wrong
But the Forcefulness caught up with us,
And now it is backfiring against us

The stream of light gets closer now
We stand knowing that this is the end
Knowing we have become the victims now
Instead of the powerful ones we once were
In the past we bombed them,
But in the future they got the revenge

Standing here thinking of what we did
How we could have prevented all of this
If we just acted against our government
Told them to talk instead of bombing.
Instead of standing up then and acting,
We are standing up now about to die

Powerful, foreboding write...well done. The ending was particularly effective. Keep 'em coming!!

Your political views are evident. The poem was moving and I liked it, although I think the problem is more complex then you have given credit for it and people are still standing in the shadows of their own ignorance.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
