I Never Even Had It

So long ago,
young and happy we fell in love.
I was so sure
that you were sent from above.

This is the life I'd always dreamed of,
living life with love and bright dreams.
Yet I should've known,
nothing is ever what it seems.

All I ever truly saw of you
was your distant resonated light.
I always told you the truth
that for you I'd always fight.

I try to smile through the tears,
I try to tell myself that you're gone.
Everything we ever had
was vanished by the coming of dawn.

I want to hold on to our love
the love that made me happy yet so sad.
I want to hold on to that scent of hope,
but I know you can't keep what you never had.

Your presense still lingers in those dark halls,
I thought our love was right but it was all wrong.
You will always be by my side.
but it seems I've been alone all along.
