What Summers are Made of.

It starts from the first splash of Pepsi
on your dry and
long awaited tongue.
From the first slice of pizza
at 10 o'clock at night
with all your friends.
It starts you first smell the popcorn
as the previews to a movie start.
From the first kiss from a new love
on a clear and slightly cool evening.
And when you smell the sweet aroma
of cotten candy mixed with the smell of
the wood on a roller coaster.
It starts when your alarm goes off
and half the day is gone.
When you first splash down in a chillingly
refreshing pool.
And when you make a "slurpie-run"
to the local 7-11 at 1 o'clock in the morning.
It starts with the screams of people
coming down the first drop
of a 300 ft super-coaster.
When you hear rock music
blasting from the speakers,
as you watch a baseball game.
And the crikets chirp their lonely song
in the early hours of the evening.
Somewhere between putting
on shorts for the first time,
to ordering the first scoop of ice cream.
To watching the sunset over the lake,
or the ocean, or the river.
It hits you.
...This is what summer is made of...

I like this write...It gave me some lovely imagery, and had me reminiscing on similar events. I think with some tweaking to the format, it would've been 'that much better', and I noticed the odd typo here and there as well....Still an enjoyable piece, which I think most readers can relate to with fond memories. Nice job!

I did like it. It created a picture perfect summer... i guess that's the only thing that gets me. I loved your write so don't get me wrong, but for some people... writes like this can make them cry because it's everything they never had. And that is what summers should be made of.. but not all are. I LOVED iT though.. it created a great picture. |

You should use a spellchecker, then paste & post, because the small mistakes drag down the poem a bit. However, you have picked a wide breadth of things that characterize summer, and bring fond memories of my own. By the way, the beginning had me laughing... |
