Her heart beats slowly
Etched with disappointment
Calls out to a trusting love
Frayed hopes weep
To promises he cannot keep
Tired her caramel eyes fall
Looking at years, sorrowful and crazed
Fighting for that last chance
As she argues her thoughts unto paper
Laughter a once common trait
Barely peeks out her full distressing lips.
Smiles carefully placed
Hiding her inner demons
Wild spirit broken
Like a whipped horse
After a day of racing
Struggles to break free from his grasp
Children copying her pain
Into simply songs of distress
Tolerating the madness
For they know no other way
Yet, confused her heart
Finally beats for another
Skipping, melodic hope
Chasing pain from a lost soul
However
He lingers,
Devil horned, sinister thoughts
Word spew, creating earthquakes
Cracking the new foundations she has gained
His Shadow,
Forever blocking light
From her promising days
