Lying here

I sit here gazing up at the light
My god is calling me
My innings is finally at an end
At the age of ninety three
I have no one to hold my hand
As I begun to close my eyes
Just an empty echoing silence
No "Please don't die" or cries
My final journey I face alone
No body to hold my hand
Life flashes before my eyes
Some days were very grand
I view the girls I loved in life
The one who took my heart
The friends I shared fun nights with
The ones I tore apart
Once I was surrounded by people
Conversation was always there
Now here I am lying in the gutter
Nobody here to care
In all my life people always made
False promises to me
"I'll look after you in your old age"
Just empty lies you see
Will anyone remember Jack?
As the loving man who did nothing wrong?
Or will I be another vagrant
Just singing a final song
My eyes begin to close now
I see the sun one last time
Its shining beauty and warmth
Make me feel so fine
It feels as though I can touch the sun
My god I really can!
I embrace its warmth with all my heart
I am a happy man
I look down and pity the man lying there
I feel so much sympathy
Then reality stikes me in the face
The lying man is me..........
