The Still Small voice of Trumpets

Contributed by Rakerman1999 on Saturday, 16th July 2005 @ 11:29:31 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

In a time of endless struggle
In a time of constant strife
When the pain was overwhelming
Tired, so tired was I of life
Sleepless nights had held me captive
Days of agony abound
In the darkness of my torment
From the distance came a sound

'Twas a still, small voice of trumpets
Softly, softly, did they play
Calling from across the valley
Clear the mind and let it stray
To the fields of peaceful visions
Where the better spirits rest
Souls no longer lost to wander
Those who've passed their mortal test

Am I mad, a mind in turmoil
Broken, beaten by duress
Driven to hallucination
Made insane by my distress
Or is this the song of freedom
Casting off of worldly chains
And I close my eyes and listen
To those faintly heard refrains

'Twas the still, small voice of trumpets
Played by God to call me home
Where my tears are shed no longer
Nevermore alone to roam
And I see the Angels waiting
To their blessed arms I race
There to dwell in peace forever
Held within my Lords embrace.

This was just beautiful. It read so easy, so lyrical. It painted a picture of going Home after a long hard struggle. Very nice. Left me with a deep warm feeling. Bravo! (Sorry, I'm not good at being a critic.) Peace to you.

Larry you write with such passion and conviction it's no wonder you are the most read poet on YPDC. This is one of your best poems, incredibly deep and so well written.

I haven't read you in a long, long, time .. and although this is beautiful and you may want to go away .. I'm afraid there are people who need you as a mooth..still.
You are brilliant .. the trumpets you hear are trumpets calling you to write .. and to let your beautiful words teach others, such as me .. your words leave me in tears because you feel such a sadness deep in your soul and your talent lets me feel it deep in mine .. Oh how I've missed you my friend ..if I may call you that .. if not, well I've missed your poets words anyway .. please post again soon ...

The spirituality of this poem is so profound and soothing; and it offers a message of hope. Again, that loving gentle touch so much a halllmark of your poetry, while still being very versatile and creative in form and style.

Super write Larry, I loved reading this poem
